Spring Valley is the first city north of the Iowa border on Hwy 63; and 30 miles south of Rochester with good roads in all directions. 

Recreation Opportunities in Spring Valley

  • Historical Society buildings: Washburn-Zittleman House: two-story historic home with turn - of- the- century furnishings; the Washburn Workshop, Ag Bldg. & History Hall.  Fillmore County Veterans Memorial on museum grounds.
  • Self-guided walking tour of historic down-town area
  • Antique, gift and craft shops
  • City Park with lighted tennis courts, swimming pool, playgrounds, shelter, tables, grills, horseshoe pits, ball fields.
  • Camping:  State Parks and numerous camp-grounds within a few minutes drive
  • Mystery Cave, East on Hwy 16 to Cty Rd 5 South
  • Newly restored Meighen Store at Forestville State Park, 12 miles S.E. of Spring Valley
  • Hunting, fishing, birding, hiking and bike trails close by
  • Wilder Fest - Mid-August
